Michigan Project for Informed Public Policy A new effort to bring accurate psychological research information into the public policy discussion of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) issues in Michigan has assembled its staff and has selected priority initiatives. Second Year Grant Awarded The Michigan Project for Informed Public Policy (MPIPP), funded for a second year by a grant from the Kalamazoo-based Arcus Foundation, is a collaborative effort between the Michigan Psychological Association and its Foundation, the American Psychological Association's Office of LGBT Concerns in Washington, D.C., and the Rockway Institute at Alliant International University. During its first year, MPIPP initiated collaboration between social scientists, mental health professionals and LGBT equality groups to inform LGBT public policy on such issues as hate crimes, non-discrimination laws, recognition of same-sex relationships, parenting and adoption rights, and youth and gender. MPAF Partners with the National Institute of Mental Health — The Michigan Psychological Association Foundation (MPAF) has been selected as the NIMH Outreach Partner for the state of Michigan. MPAF joins Outreach Partners in each state and the District of Columbia. The Outreach Partnership Program is a national initiative that strives to bridge the gap between mental health research and clinical practice by increasing public awareness of mental health and illness.
